The recent brouhaha over the Mumbai for Maharashtrians seems to have gotten the Congress Party’s goat right in the nogging, with the “heir apparent” Rahul Gandhi commenting on the issue in Bihar, categorically stating that Mumbai belongs to Indians.

Wah !! Applause, applause, etc.

Varied sources hint at an eye on upcoming Bihar polls, etc etc, collecting sops before elections and so on. As also is being said about the Shiv Sena and MNS raking up the Marathi Manoos issue just before its poll time in Mah. These are to me all side issues. Each party gets darned vocal about a cause they perceive as “close to populace” to get brownie points and steamroll at least a few candidates to power. Election systems over the world see various parties try various stunts and gimmics to get noticed and close to their “junta” prior to elections. And close the day of poll, louder the hullaballoo, disruption and so on.

Peaceful. Don’t want to change this.

What attracts my attention in this entire issue, is that of Rahul Gandhi, “scion” of the Congress Party of India, Leader through birth into the party leadership family, etc, decides to come out and say Mumbai is for all Indians. Again, while I laud this thought, I actually wonder why this man displays such an apparent case of hunting with the hounds and running with the hare. What am I talking about here?

I’m talking about article 370 of the Indian Constitution wrt Jammu & Kashmir. Read THIS to get a feel of what its all about.

To draw your attention to all that matters behind these verbose and possibly confusing terms, we are looking at just one glaring point. That the residents of Jammu & Kashmir live under a separate set of laws, including those related to citizenship, ownership of property, and fundamental rights, as compared to other Indians.

Granted by the Congress Party, during Indira Gandhi’s regime in the period 1974-1975.

Frankly, I have absolutely no idea about why this entire thing is still in force. The Congress Party has assured us time and again, that Kashmir was, is and will always be a part of India, and not be handed over to Pakistan, at any cost. It has assured us that Kashmir is like all other states, on par with any state with India, and that Indians have freedom to be a Kashmiri with full rights, blah blah blah !!

Whither then were they when Kashmiri Pandits were driven out by Mullahs there? Where are they now, when not a single Hindu can setup biz, purchase property or land, or even stay on there?

With this behind them, why are they crowing from top of the posts about a simple issue of Mumbai for Maharashtrians?

I’ll call this 370 degrees of hypocrisy. And a fat slap on the faces of people who chose to invest their votes in them.

A Friday spent in musing always augurs a great weekend. And today, is one such Friday. So here’s to great Friday Muses and Better Weekends

Spent the morning reading hate posts/tweets/mails against the Mangalore Pub incident buggers, the ShriRam Sene

Joined an amazing group on FB thats gonna celebrate India Cultural Day sometime in March, with Kamasutra as its central theme. (drool !!) See a lot of opportunities happening on that day !! Tan tan taraaaaaaa. And ohh !! these guys are doing this to get back at the guys in point 1.

Noticed that TCP, the guy I’ve been tweeting with regularly has landed in Mumbai today and is tweeting away as regularly as ever. Welcome TCP and lets meet.

Aware that today is IPL Auction Day, when the rest of the sports in India take a backseat, and non cricketers watch in shock and awe as obscene amounts are offered to cricketers.

That IPL is a WWE kinda thing. More show than sport.

That cricket was always too slow to be a sport the way Soccer is.

That the difference between cricket and soccer will always be that soccer doesn’t have a THIRD REFEREE, and that cricket has a THIRD UMPIRE. Sucks !!! If cheating, and passion rising outta human errors isn’t there, whats the point in a sport? Might as well let robots play it.

Cheers

I had blogged about it 2 years back in a (now defunct and deleted) forum.

Its about the role of bar girls as part of a HUGE intelligence gathering mechanims.

This has been shown in movies, added to crime novels and stories ad infimum, and actually used by various intelligence agencies to track and maintain whereabouts of underworld characters. The Bar Girls network, one of the key components of a glamorous underworld was a key point in various information gathering mechanisms and routines.

Up came the Great RR Patil, and blasted it down.

Down went revenues that accrued in the Mumbai night life. Down went revenues that night time rickshaw drivers were used to, ferrying people to and fro. Down went crime (apparently). Down went a whole sub market that relied on these bar girls performing night after night.

Up went surreptitious performances, and contract bar girls gatherings (you can”t keep a “good” thing down, can you?)

I remember the times when things like match fixing stories revolved around bar girls. I remember times when the likes of Telgi’s networks were exposed due to associations and liaisons with bar girls’ networks.

The bar girl attraction is a magnet that draws not only the staid and sober out for a temporary lecherous time, but also the underworld who flush with cash, frequent these havens for entertainment of a weirdly fascinating kind. This world, based on the mechanism of “biggest money gets it all” plays havoc with the staidest and most sober who meander into its environs.

This is a forum, and an avenue for those flush with cash that cannot really be declared to go out and amuse themselves. The economics of this industry, in terms of cash flowing around a single outlet, would at times put bourses and A level stocks to shame.

No wonder, then, that this was a world that attracted the underworld like nobody’s business. And no wonder too, that cops would turn a blind eye to “moralistic” views, for wasn’t this the forum that gave cops and moles their leads to track movements of”watched” people, stray disruptive processes, and business deals that couldn’t be mapped with a service or sales tax?

Have the birds then come home to roost for the great RR?

By banning the bar girls’ networks, RR effectively cut off a vital flow of information that could be used by law agencies to effectively and quietly quell a wide range of problems. If not quelling, they could be used as a leverage point to get information and leads to root causes.

Some “evils” are necessary… and some are even to be encouraged, with a larger picture in mind.

And the larger picture, Shri RR, is not morals management. It is human life and safety that you were appointed to take care of.

And you failed.

But then, thats ok, sir. “Bade shehron me aise chhot mote haadsein hote rehte hain…”

1) That it’s really not life back to normal, mumbaikar spirit etc.

2) That ISI will never ever participate in un-earthing the Pak (or made in Pak) connection. That their chief isn’t being sent is proof enough.

3) That Raj Thackeray has come into limelight again, via millions of SMS’ all over pronouncing him a coward for not bashing terrorists up, the way he bashed up Biharis and UPites.

4) That for some strange reason, not a single bollywood name cropped up in the list of guests, hostages, etc at the Taj. Thought that was their favourite joint? Did they choose to stay away on this one day? Were they warned about it? Stupid muses, but valid ones too, I guess…

5) That amusingly, because of the Chabad bldg connection, it was thought that Mossad is at work. (Twitter, twitter)

6) That the online community proved far more sensible and mature, than hysterical and over dramatic journalists, who took their camera to every dog farting and calling it a threat and a blast …

7) That one still doesn’t know how the IB was not aware of such a massive attack, and the planning that must have gone into it, or the landing of ammunition enough to support a mini army.

That Indian media must necessarily go a long, long way towards honing their reporting skills, and must be sober, mature, tuned down and impassive in reporting such matters. That they must not screw up by airing ops that might have caused loss of life amongst troops participating in them

9) And that finally, its going to be another “forget it, those guys will drown in their own sh*t” funda, and that no one is going to do anything about why Dawood is still moving around openly in Karachi, or why LeT top honchos are allowed to go around scot free making public speeches against India.

The above is pure rant. And its based on truth/logic/info provided.

Mumbai yesterday “enjoyed” a rick strike.

The roads were amazingly empty, the traffic less snarly and more manageable, the hair raising stops less, the honking nearly non existent, and people used to traveling small distances by rick deciding to either skip it and chill where they are or take the bus.

This strike was apparently to object to the cost of the electronic meter, which is being made compulsory by the state govt.

I feel most strongly for those who lost a day’s earning due to this strike. The meters are coming in, there is no going back on that. So why strike ? What purpose does it serve ? Surely, a rick strike doesn’t affect the common man. He commutes by bus, or by cab or walks if the distance is too less.

The only people who lose in a strike are the people who are striking. Some day, when strike organizers are forced to pay for the losses of those they ask to join in the strike, is when they will feel the pinch.

Bad blathering here, bad gibberish even. I’m tired though, so sketchy as it is…
